200DD Basement Remodel

Postby hutson » Sat Apr 25, 2015 7:15 pm

I decided to upgrade from a 75g and 45g cube after being in the hobby for about 7 months.

Image

Both are still running, awaiting the big move. I ended up going with the 200 DD from Marineland to fit the area I had to work with. The dimensions are 48x36x27". I hope I'm not disappointed limiting myself with the width.

Below are some of the equipment choices I'm going to start off with.

Tank: Marineland 200g Deep Dimension
Sump: Eshopps ADV-300
Skimmer: Super Reef Octopus 2000 XP
Circulation:
- Return: Jebao DC12000
- Internal: 2x VorTech MP40s
Controller: Neptune Systems Apex
Dosing: Neptune Systems DOS
Media Reactor: BRS GFO

The first step was to demo the basement and decide on the exact location to place the tank. I really had 2 locations that I thought would work and allow me to have a fish/utility room.

After analyzing costs and obstacles, such as duct work and the furnace, I decided to go with B. It wasn't my first choice, but had better access to drains and water.

Here is the stand build:

Thanks Mike @mcatlett for wiring up a new breaker and a few outlets

Some panels and holes.

View from the Stairs. One of the reasons I didn't want the stand here. But it isn't as bad as I thought it would be. It will give off a nice welcoming blue glow once it's running. :D

Finished up panels and a little trim.

Next steps I'm not looking forward to: wood filler, sanding and paint.

Normally I would say white because I think it looks classier, but in your case I think I would leave it natural until you figure out the rest of the room then finish the stand to match your other decor.

Yeah, that's what others have said. Wait till I figure out the rest of the room.

Coming along nicely Josh! I like how its the first thing you see when you walk down the stairs.. White would definitely look nice, but I agree it may not hurt to finish the room first then decide.

Stand is all primed and it gives me an idea of what it will look like white. Carpet comes the 15th.
